Right now, as I live and breathe, there are at least TWO rival “hamilton elector” movements going on.
One, featuring petitioners seeking to induce a couple faithless republican electors to switch their votes to Hillary. https://electoralcollegepetition.com
Two, featuring a cabal of democratic electors seeking to join with republicans to deny Trump a majority (letting Congress decide on the president) or switching enough electors, dem and rep, to a suitable, Republican, third party candidate. http://www.hamiltonelectors.com/
I sure as hell don’t like the fact that Trump appears to have won the election, nor like any aspect of the Trump future cabinet. Nonetheless, this country has survived Eisenhower’s Korea, Kennedy’s Cuba, Johnson’s Vietnam, Nixon’s Cambodia, Nixon’s CREEPy resignation, Ford’s and Carter’s Middle East waffleage, Reagan’s Star Wars, Bush I and II’s excellent Iraqi nightmare, Clinton’s impeachment, and whatever the last eight years in Syria, Palestine, Zikaland and Ebolastan and the Tea Parties everywhere. Any one of those fuckers would have wet themselves at our current technological sophistication such that roving bands of morons who think they can Wednesday Morning QB fix the Constitution and win a good outcome from any of this.
You need to shut. the fuck. up.
You need to take your time out and spend a month or two sitting in silent contemplation. I’m not saying “do nothing”, I mean, find your center. Go stand with a Standing Rock protester, or March on Washington, or sit in the middle of Sand Hill Road. But really, shut the fuck up. Do your job, and don’t play “i know what’s best for America”. You don’t. I sure as hell don’t. But the volume is out of control.
The entire rest of the world is collectively losing their shit, politically, trying to find exactly the right way to handle the USA tearing itself apart. We’re fucking lucky that some asshole North Korean doesn’t try to live-test a nuclear device in the sea of Japan, or Israel try to reverse the Iran nuclear deal unilaterally, or any one of a few dozen jihadis try to make merry ball bearing swiss cheese, or some yokel in Montana decide his Second Amendment time has come.
Stop. Let’s have a moment of national silence, and remember all the fucked up things we’ve done in the name of the republic over the last 60 or so years. I can’t stand the amount of half-truth bullshit being flung around right now among my nearly-all liberal friends.
Electors are going to elect. Congress is going to congress. You cannot go at the problems we are going to face in the next 12 months if you keep yelling. You need to chill. Read. Listen. Fuck someone’s brains out. Smoke a newly legalized bowl. But please do shut the fuck up with your calls to action. The last thing we need is someone “doing something” about things.
